Large theaters and auditoriums require careful acoustic treatment because their high ceilings, large volumes, and extensive hard surfaces can create strong sound reflections and excessive reverberation. For this theater project in Bangladesh, ES Acoustic developed a combination of wall and ceiling acoustic solutions to improve the acoustic environment while maintaining the architectural character of the space.
The treatment combines grooved wood acoustic panels, upholstered acoustic panels, and suspended polyester fiber acoustic panels, allowing different acoustic materials to work together according to the room’s layout and requirements.
The theater walls use a combination of grooved wood acoustic panels and upholstered acoustic panels to provide sound absorption while creating a visually balanced interior. The grooved wood panels add a natural architectural finish and can contribute to controlling sound reflections, while the upholstered panels provide additional sound absorption across selected wall areas.
Rather than applying the same amount of acoustic material throughout the room, the placement and coverage of the panels can be developed according to the room dimensions, existing finishes, seating arrangement, and target reverberation characteristics.
